Rolfing® Structural Integration
Rolfing® Structural Integration aims to create mobility in the parts of your body that need to move and stability in the parts that need to support you, so that you can inhabit your body in a more comfortable state of strength, flexibility and ease.
When your body is out of balance, the force that gravity exerts upon you causes some areas to overwork and others to become weak, often resulting in pain. As fascia – the connective tissue that holds the body together – tightens into a compensatory pattern, the bones are pulled further out of alignment.
An imbalance can be the result of an old injury, hours of sitting at a desk or behind the wheel of a car, repetitive use in exercise or work, or simply poor posture. A Rolfing® Structural Integrator will assess your posture, manipulate the fascia to reduce drag on the soft tissue, and create exercise and awareness practices to encourage new postural and movement potential.
As a certified Rolfing® Structural Integrator, Amy works with clients using advanced myofascial techniques to reduce restriction in the myofascial system. Amy’s hands-on Rolfing®® Structural Integration work will help balance your body and optimize the way you move. Together, you will explore postural challenges and bring old patterns to light while progressing through the body from the superficial to deeper layers. In addition to manipulating the tissue, Amy will introduce re-education practices to transform posture and free your body from limiting structural habits.
Each session is performed on a massage table, either sitting or standing, with some client movement.
Amy will slowly adjust, stretch and reposition the body’s supportive wrappings, the fascia. This firm yet friendly directed pressure restores natural length and elasticity to the fascia’s network of deep connective fibers. This process re-educates the body. You will learn to spot habitual movement patterns and resolve habits that no longer serve you, bringing a new sense of freedom into daily life.
